Sanuk has eliminated the paper stuffing in their shoes and they ship product without boxes. This not only saves heaps of trees, it also allows them to ship twice as many in the same space as boxed shoes.
By cutting their shipping size in half they also cut their fuel and freight usage in half.
Sandal hangers are now made from recycled cardboard instead of plastic. Instead of boxes, shoes are packed in bags made of cornstarch which decompose quickly. Sanuk is also starting to use a new material called Trelon, which is a natural rubber substance, instead of EVA.
